Improves visibility around a vehicle by displaying an image that gives the driver a sense of seeing through the vehicle body.

Multi-Angle Vision™ displays a 360-degree bird's-eye view of the vehicle on the screen of a car navigation system or another similar device to improve visibility around the vehicle. In addition to the existing display mode that gives the driver a sense of looking down on the vehicle, FUJITSU TEN LIMITED (Head Office: Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, President and Representative Director: Akira Yamanaka) has developed a new screen mode that improves visibility around the vehicle by displaying an image that gives the driver a sense of seeing through the surrounding vehicle components including the vehicle body and seats. This mode gives the driver a larger view of obstacles to help the driver more efficiently confirm the safety of the area surrounding the vehicle before starting the car.
This newly developed screen is a key component of the See-through View functionality, jointly developed by FUJITSU TEN and Toyota Motor Corporation (hereinafter, Toyota), which is incorporated into the Panoramic View Monitor mounted on the new models of ALPHARD and VELLFIRE launched by Toyota on January 26. This functionality is offered as either a standard component or factory-installed option for these vehicles.
As part of our commitment to contribute to improving vehicle safety, we intend to vigorously market Multi-Angle Vision™ equipped with the new screen mode to automotive manufacturers both inside and outside the country so that this product is mounted on an increasing number of vehicles.

About Multi-Angle Vision™

With Multi-Angle Vision™, cameras are mounted on four locations: the front and rear of the vehicle as well as the right and left door mirrors. Images captured by these cameras are synthesized to render a three-dimensional, 360-degree bird's-eye view of the area around the vehicle, which, along with the three-dimensional CG image of the vehicle, is projected onto the screen of the car navigation system or another similar device. In 2010, Multi-Angle Vision™ was developed jointly with FUJITSU LABORATORIES as an innovative safe driving solution. At that time, it was the first product of its kind in the world(*). Unlike some products where camera footage is converted into planar images which are then put together to render a top-down view of the immediate area around the vehicle, this product not only generates and displays a three-dimensional bird's-eye view of a wider range of area around the vehicle including the surrounding landscape but also allows the driver to switch to a different perspective.
This product has been adopted by Toyota as a dealer-installed option called Multi-Angle Monitor or, for some vehicles, as a factory-installed option called Panoramic View Monitor.

Main Features of the Newly Developed Screen

360-degree view that gives the driver a sense of seeing through the vehicle body

View from the driver's perspective

When the driver presses the switch while the vehicle is parked, an image of the area surrounding the vehicle is displayed on the screen of the car navigation system or another similar device. Displaying an image that gives the driver a sense of seeing through the vehicle body allows the driver to more intuitively observe small objects that were previously difficult to discern with existing products that displayed a top-down view of the immediate area around the vehicle. This helps improve the driver's awareness of objects, especially short ones, in blind spots (corners or rear of the vehicle), which are easily missed from the driver's seat. A 360-degree view is automatically displayed on the screen. The driver can also pause to take a careful look at a desired location. ?

Our future endeavors -Offering greater security and safety with Future Link-

We are committed to developing advanced safety systems that help prevent collisions or minimize damage caused by potential collisions that might occur under various circumstances, including when the vehicle is parked, when the vehicle starts moving forward (or backward), when the vehicle is running, or during and after collision. These systems include not only Multi-Angle Vision™ to which the new functionality has been added but also the millimeter wave radar, the anti-theft device, the airbag ECU (electronic control unit), and the telematics unit with emergency call system support.
In addition to developing these car-mounted devices, we will contribute to realizing an accident-free automotive society by creating safety systems with high added value. To this end, we will combine data on people, vehicles, and society, and join this data together with (Future Link), a concept of offering a new mobility lifestyle that caters to the needs of each customer.
